WELCOME TO UC3

The UEFA-ECA joint venture uniting European club football

What is UC3?

UC3 unites European football’s governing body UEFA and the European Club Association (ECA), representing more than 700 top European clubs, around a new vision for managing commercial rights to UEFA club competitions (the “UCCs”).

UC3 is the commercial entity responsible for generating revenues from the UCCs and creating value for our partners. Our organisation oversees the management, sales and delivery of all commercial rights (including media, sponsorship and licensing rights) for UEFA’s elite men’s and women’s club competitions.

What are UC3’s responsibilities?

Football’s commercial marketplace is in a constant state of change. Fans demand ever more immersive user experiences. The business models of media platforms and operators never stop evolving, while commercial partners demand brand associations that align ever more with their market objectives. UC3 responds to these demands by delivering increased commercial value for all stakeholders.

Across the entire portfolio of UCC commercial rights, we work with sports marketing agency partners to help maximise the value delivered by commercial programmes for both our partners and shareholders.

What are the benefits of UC3 for European club football?

The pioneering UEFA-ECA partnership aligns European football’s governing body and clubs around a long-term commercial growth and innovation strategy.

We bring greater stability and transparency to football, giving commercial partners the confidence required to make long-term investments in UEFA competitions.

UC3 unlocks new opportunities for partners to fully leverage media, sponsorship and licensing partnerships.

How does the joint venture affect UEFA’s club competitions?

UC3 manages the long-term UEFA club competitions’ marketing and commercial strategy, plus the marketing, sales and delivery of commercial rights.

As European football’s governing body, UEFA controls all regulatory and sporting matters, such as formats, club licensing, regulations and the distribution of revenue as prize money and solidarity payments back into the game.

ECA is the sole representative body of more than 700 top tier clubs participating in Europe’s domestic leagues and continues to partner with UEFA outside of UC3 on all non-commercial matters.

UEFA-ECA partnership: the impact so far

Our combined management of UCC media and commercial rights generated record revenues from the 2024-27 UEFA men's club competitions cycle

The UEFA/ECA collaboration delivered a new value-enhancing commercial strategy for UEFA women's football including for the 2025-30 UEFA Women's Champions League

Having the main actors in the same room was a major reason why American television and radio network CBS signed an unprecedented six-year deal securing US English language media rights for the 2024-27 and 2027-30 UEFA men's club competition cycles. The deal demonstrated the trust that partners have in our united vision for football.

When and why did UC3 start?

Our offices in Nyon officially opened for business on 1 January 2025, but UC3’s foundations were laid in May 2017 when UEFA Club Competitions SA was created as a subsidiary company of UEFA with a Board composed of UEFA and ECA representatives.

Initially charged with advising UEFA on strategic business matters, the relationship between our two shareholders has steadily evolved, driven by ever-closer collaboration on long-term commercial strategies. UC3 now fully manages the commercial rights for the UCCs.

A longstanding memorandum of understanding between UEFA and ECA underpins the joint venture. First signed in 2008 and recently extended until 2033, our two shareholders now work as partners on a range of football issues affecting men’s and women’s clubs: governance, formats, regulatory, financial and sporting matters.

How are we organised?

UEFA and ECA are equally represented on our Board of Administration which meets multiple times each year. Our company offices are located in Nyon, Switzerland, where Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA’s Director of Marketing and Charlie Marshall, CEO of the European Club Association, serve as joint Managing Directors of UC3, overseeing an expert staff.
